Devised Performance

For over 25 years Vessel, under the direction of Rachel Bowditch, has been creating original, devised performances. Starting with a compelling hunch or idea, the devising process can take up to two years of research, development, and physical dramaturgy.

Anthropocene

/ˈanTHrəpəˌsēn/

A devised physical theatre piece that explores the forensic DNA of humanity—from the micro to the macro within this current age we are living in, the Anthropocene.

Anthropocene, an original devised piece of physical theatre that will explore the current age we are living in—the age where human activity has had a significant impact on our climate and environment. The topic of climate change and the impact of humanity on the planet is urgent. Climate and sustainability scientists have a challenging time translating important data to the general public because graphs and statistics are often too opaque and complex for the non-scientist to decipher. This is where theatre and performance come in. Through a somatic, poetic exploration of these larger global issues tied to human consumption, technology, and isolation, this piece aims to create a visceral, dynamic approach to these challenging themes impacting our current geological age, the Anthropocene.
